New plans outlined by the Government to “create a walking and cycling nation” will include doubling the number of people using bikes by 2025. The Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy unveiled yesterday aims to cut congestion and improve health and air quality, reduce the number of cyclist deaths on the roads and reverse the decline in walking in recent years. But campaigners have warned the blue paper “won’t be worth the paper it’s written on” unless it is backed by sustained funding. The final strategy will be published in the summer.
